The WordPress Dashboard is the admin area of your website — the place where everything gets managed. You access it by going to your website address followed by /wp-admin. It is where you write and edit content, install plugins and themes, manage users, and adjust settings.

What you can do from the Dashboard

  • Pages and posts — Create, edit, and publish your website content
  • Media — Upload and manage images, documents, and other files
  • Plugins — Install, activate, deactivate, and update the tools that extend your site’s functionality
  • Appearance — Switch themes and customise the look of your site
  • Users — Add or remove people who can access and edit your site
  • Settings — Configure the fundamentals: site title, URL structure, reading settings, and more

Who should have access?

Not everyone who works on your site needs full Dashboard access. WordPress has different user roles — Administrator, Editor, Author, and others — each with different levels of access. Keeping admin accounts limited to the people who actually need them is an important part of WordPress login security.

A well-built WordPress site has a Dashboard that is straightforward to use, with only what you need visible. If yours feels overwhelming or cluttered, that is often a sign of a setup that was never properly organised.
